EDWARD THE BLACK PRINCE
Edward son of King Edward III, 1330-1376, became famous for his exploits in the Hundred Years' war with France, and fought at Crecy and Pitiers. It is thought the name "Black Prince" refered to the colour of his livery worn by his retainers. His son was later to become Richard II. This image is based on the Effigy in Canterbury Cathedral.
