TROILLUS AND CRESSIDA
This panel, illustrating the story of Troilus and Cressida is based on a woodcut from the 1896 edition of the William Morris "Kelmscott Chaucer". The woodcut was the work of Edward Burne-Jones, a close friend of William Morris. Shakespeare's play, "Troilus and Cressida" was written in 1602 and was based on the work of Chaucer, which itself was probably derived from Boccaccio, an Italian renaissance writer. The roots of the story lie in Greek Mythology, Troilus being the son of Priam of Troy.
