KING ARTHUR AND THE KNIGHTS OF THE ROUND TABLE
Based on a woodcut printed in 1488, with an intricate border of foliage and flowers. The central woodcut depicts the round table itself, with Arthur seated on a canopied throne, and Queen Guinevere looking down from a balcony. Sir Lancelot and Sir Gawain are named individually. On Arthur's left side is the Siege Perilous, which remained unoccupied until the coming of Galahad, Sir Lancelot's son. It was pre-ordained by Merlin that "...none may sit (there) but the rare soul who has the strength to bear tests and responsibilities of a very high order". Thus began the Grail Quest.
